January 17, 2006 - Meeting Minutes  7:30pm -Seaford Middle School

Attendees: Maryanne DiGregorio, Patrice Marching, Michael Perrone, Robin Asighieri, Theresa Maffetone, Peter Ruffner, Michael Di Silvio, Ken Nersesian
Michael Di Silvio opened the meeting with a recap of the December meeting and quickly addressed current projects such as the gazebo project and the Washington Ave. Park restoration.  

Gazebo Project:  We are waiting for plans to be submitted to the Council for review and recommendations.  Once a gazebo style and location are agreed upon, the plans will be forwarded to the Town for approvals.   

Washington Avenue Park Project:  We are waiting for the county's Bond Issue to find out the next step in the park renovation.

FNL:  The last FNL was well attended and enjoyed by many Middle School students

Hot Chocolate Run:   We briefly discussed improvements for next year.  Suggestions were to start early with our quest for sponsors and additional runners.  Adding walkers will be considered.  In addition, it was suggested that we begin a
posting of past winners at the event and create larger and more professional looking banners.  We will purchase a new banner for the Wellness Council with our revised name: Seaford Wellness Council

Guest Speakers for High School and Middle School students:  We will sponsor a presentation to the High School and middle school students as well as their parents on a program called "Rachel's Challenge".  It involves a student of
Columbine High School and touches on a number of topics including violence,and bullying as well as other important issues.  More information can be obtained by visiting www.rachelscahllenge.com.

New Business:  Ken Nersesian discussed his ideas to address the issue of depression and suicide among teens and provided information and statistics on the subject.  We agreed that the subject is one which deserves attention and we will
look to research further
February 7, 2006 - Meeting Minutes  7:30pm - Seaford Middle School

Ken Nersesian opened the meeting with a discussion on current projects such as the gazebo project and the Washington Ave. Park restoration.

March 14, 2006 - Meeting Minutes 7:30PM - Seaford Middle School

Attendees: Michael Di Silvio, Ken Nersesian, Mr. Ragon, Liz Gaebler, Christine Kern, Lucie Dean, Peter Ruffner, Marianne DiGregorio, Legislator David Denenberg

We opened the meeting with a review of the
Rachel's Challenge presentations at the Middle and High Schools.  All feedback was exceptionally positive and Mr. Ragon said that some students have taken it upon themselves to continue
a lifestyle of creating a positive chain reaction through kindness to others.  As a continuation of this, the Wellness Council will sponsor a
Dale Carnegie Workshop for interested high school seniors in early April for the purpose of
developing their leadership, communications and human relations skills.

The Treasurer's report indicated that we have a balance of $15,775.00.
Friday Night Live will be on March 24th at the Middle School.  Barbara Richko has volunteers and supplies.  Several of us will make copies of the approved flyer to distribute to the Middle School and St. Williams.  We will have Wellness
Council T-shirts available at FNL.
Seaford Beautification:  Plans for the gazebo, pictures of the site and the draft prepared by Michael Interrante will be forwarded to Richard Bivone.  He will prepare the documents and submit to the Town for approvals and processing.  It
was decided that the location suggested by Michael Interrante be the preferred site of the gazebo.  It will be just south of the train station office on the corner nearest the office.

Washington Ave. Park Restoration: We thanked Legislator David Denenberg and Peter Ruffner for their efforts in securing the funds for the restoration.  Peter said that once the process is complete (approximately 90days) the Legislature
will be voting on the final distributions.  In addition he presented a list of projects that are to be done in the park.  

Re habituate the comfort station - New Landscaping - Re habituate the infields and outfields - New backstops - for both fields -  Reconstruct the parking lot - New bleachers and benches - New Children's Playground

We will investigate the possibility of "Adopting" the park.

Harbor PTA Auction:  We will participate by providing litter bags with out brochures.
Mr. Ragon discussed the Pre Prom meeting.

World War l Memorial:  Sharon Jonas is discussing a spring clean-up and landscaping with the American Legion and an Eagle Scout Troop.  We will discuss with Theresa Maffetone the possibility of including other Seaford troops.

Legislator David Denenberg: We thanked David for his support of the Council and his efforts to secure the funds for the Washington Ave. Park restoration.  He offered additional funds to support Friday Night Live, and the Parents Center
and Parent University projects. In addition, David provided an insightful discussion on the local environment and other projects underway which will hopefully address many of these issues.
April 11, 2006 - Meeting Minutes -Seaford Middle School Library

In Attendance:  Michael Di Silvio, Peter J. Ruffner, Christine Kern, Kevin Kimick, Donna Kimick, Ken Nersesian, Barbara De Leon, Maryanne Di Gregorio, Liz Gaebler, Steve Gaebler

The meeting was opened at 7:30pm by Chairman Michael Di Silvio.


Beautification Project  Gazebo - We are waiting for the OK by the Town of Hempstead. We still need to Investigate building Permit, foundation, electrical, and landscaping.
Tackapausha Clean Up- Trail Day Clean up -  Scheduled for June 3, 2006. BBQ is being planned.
LIRR - Substation - the substation on the corner of Washington and Sunrise has been exposed. When it was built it was supposed to remain "hidden" with shrubbery. The shrubbery has died off and a letter was sent by Mrs. Kern on
03/17/06. No reply has been sent thus far. Mr. Ruffner stated that Mr. Denenberg has a standing transportation committee and he will inquire as to why we have not yet received a reply.
Area near RR Tracks - the area  has become a dumping ground for debris, including discarded toilet bowls. Mr. Ruffner said you can not see it from the street, but you can see it from the train. Mr. Ruffner will contact LIRR to clean it up.

FNL - Mrs. Richko will make an inventory list of needed supplies.  The last FNL was a big hit with the addition of a 7th and 8th grade band.
The next FNL  will be 06/09/06. It will be the school year finale with the Carnival theme. We always do it up big, and this year will be no exception.

Treasurer's Report - Liz Gaebler Starting-$17,454.61, Additions-$271.37, Subtractions-$3047.08, Not yet cleared-$7.70, Total- $13,908.90

Washington Avenue Park - Peter Ruffner - We are waiting on the Environmental Bond, and looking into Adopt-A-Park, but Nassau County has not ever had that program before. Public Safety needs to patrol more often. Football teams
playing there with out permits are ruining the fields.

Restructure Council - Steve Gaebler - We need to amend the certificate and by laws. We needed an approval of the committee. Peter Ruffner made the motion to adopt the resolution, certificate and bi-laws amendment. Michael Di
Silvio seconded.  The paperwork will be sent by Mr. Gaebler to the Attorney General for review. It will then be sent to the Supreme Court of Nassau County where they will sign off on it and then to the Secretary of State in Albany and the
IRS.  

Seaford Community Spirit Night - Hoops and Scoops was such a big success, Spirit Night is being formed. It will be just before the budget vote. It will have activities and fireworks. We were asked to be involved. Mike Di Silvio will get
more information.

- We are waiting for the OK by the Town of Hempstead. We still attempt to meet directly with Angie Cullen regarding insurance, ownership and maintenance.  
World War l Memorial - We are waiting for Eagle Scout approval and the project should be done by mid June.  Abbey Nursery will do the layout and we will purchase plants from them.
