September 12, 2006  - Meeting Minutes - Seaford Middle School Library

The meeting was opened by Michael Di Silvio. In attendance was: Barbara DeLeon, Ken Nersesian, Christine Kern, Petter Ruffner, Assemblyman David Mc Donough, Lucie Dean and Adam Lorber.

Treasurer's Report: Michael Di Silvio - Our current balance is $16,025.45. The treasurer position is open and Christine Kern has agreed to be interim treasurer until a new treasurer can be found.  Grants in process: Nassau County
Youth Board grant for youth activities: $5,000 courtesy Legislator David Denenberg, Assemblyman Mc Donough's grant for beautification of $5,000, and Grants pending from   Sen. Charles Fuschillo, Jr.

Electricity needs to be run before the structure is built. Mr. Nersesian stated that a sleeve could be placed underneath the structure if electricity needs to electricity needs to be run before the structure is built. Mr. Nersesian stated

each. He stated that Council should talk to Angie Cullen from the town to see where they can help us with this project.

WWI Memorial: Michael Di Silvio - The Eagle Scout project is scheduled for 09/30/06. The Wellness Council has offered $500 toward landscaping.

Washington Avenue Park: Peter Ruffner - The bond issue vote is tomorrow. Washington Avenue Park is slated to get 25% of the park improvement bond issue.  Work can be expected to be completed by the end of next summer.
The baseball diamond has already been re dug.

Hosting Future Guest Speakers: Mr. Ted Fulton, Asst  Principal of the HS, stated that parents are still talking about Rachel's Challenge. He stated that maybe a program could be conducted during Prom Season.  Mr. Di Silvio is
looking into the Wellness Council sponsoring other programs such as a trip to the Body Exhibit in NY  City.   Mr. Fulton stated that he will talk to Mr. Ragon and get back to the Council.

LIRR Power Station: Christine Kern - At the power station on the east side of Washington Ave near Sunrise Hwy., a black tarp was placed around the fencing. While it is an improvement, it is not a solution.

Seaford Beautification: Christine Kern - Washington Avenue near the stores will get alternating American flags and  Seaford banners. The Chamber of Commerce has donated $2500 and the Wellness Council has donated $2500.

Tackapausha Park Clean Up: Adam Lorber - The area near Sunrise Hwy by the LIRR trestle area is heavily littered.  We will contact the LIRR and the Parks Dept to find a solution will be made.

Hot Chocolate Run: Michael Di Silvio - If the gazebo is completed on time, the course can be altered to pass by it.  It was suggested that a power point display be running concurrently during the Run Registration and while
waiting for the Results of the Run. It could include photographs from previous runs and sponsors. It was suggested that the auditorium and the surrounding halls be used and not the cafeterias.  We have reserved Friday Night and
Saturday morning at High School for our use.  Mr. Fulton is going to make sure that all HS clubs and activities are aware that the Auditorium is not available those dates.  We need donations for raffles. The sponsor sheet was
repriced.

SEPTA: Michael Di Silvio - We gave SEPTA a cash donation towards their Spring Dance. The students had a great time.  SEPTA  plans to acknowledge the Wellness Council during their next meeting slated for 09/19/06 at 7:30
in the Middle School Library.

FNL: Michael Di Silvio for Barbara Richko - The dates are on the calendar and we will coordinate with Barbara Richko as we get closer to the event.

Seaford Historical Society: Christine Kern - There will be a meeting to try to revive the Seaford Historical Society on 09/25/06 at 7:30 at Seaford Library.

The meeting ended  at 8:58 pm.
