WELLNESS NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM - WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20th, 2024

The Seaford Wellness Council ongoing series of
Wellness Event was another wonderful night.

We had two informative presentations:

  • Matthew Lago, PT, DPT, ATC  discussed the benefits of supervised exercise in the Medicare population, including tips on fall prevention and recovery techniques.

  • Laura Metzdorff-Rivera, L.ac  explored the benefits of mindfulness in managing stress and provided guidance on getting started with a practice.

We thank everyone for coming and you can come to our ongoing series of "Wellness Nights at the Museum", and of course thank Judy and the museum for allowing us to work with them.

We are always looking for new presenters who would be of interest to the Seaford Community.  Please contact us if your or someone you know would like to present.

2022 Seaford Wellness Council's FREE Health and Wellness Night
was a great night

It was held at the Seaford Historical Society Museum

We had the pleasure of having the doctors from
South Shore Eye Care give an amazing presentation on various eye conditions.

Each doctor talked about a different eye problem situation.
I think everyone walked away from this information with an understanding of eye care.

We then had Anthony Bevilacqua of AB Fitness discuss nutrition and a lot of easy fixes that we can all do to help improve our health.

About the Museum

The Union Free School District in Seaford, a lively village of 500 residents in 1893, voted $3,500 that year for the construction of a school. The building, originally constructed on Jackson and Waverly Avenues, served as a school until 1917 when the school board decided that the district had outgrown its present quarters.

The wooden school was then moved from the southwest corner of Jackson and Waverly Avenues to the opposite corner, on the southeast of Waverly and Southard.

and used as a firehouse from 1919 to 1975 when the fire company outgrew it. The building was then donated to the Seaford Historical Society for use as a museum and  moved closer to its original site.

The Museum depends on your donations:
The Historical Society installed a new brick walkway in front of the museum in 2020..This new addition consists of  approximately 200 bricks that can be engraved and personalized.

Honor your family, business, or special occasion while supporting your local museum by purchasing an engraved paving stone in the Heritage Walkway. This is anopportunity to leave a lasting legacy in our town and will be a permanent reminder of your generosity and Seaford Pride, forever visible for all future museum visitors to see.

The cost of the bricks is tax deductible pursuant to Section 501c3 of the IRS code. 4 x 8 bricks are available for engraving @ $100 each. Each 4 x 8 brick can contain a total 3 lines. 8 x 8 bricks are available for engraving @ $200 each. Each 8 x 8 brick can contain a total 6 lines.

Please contact them at 516-783-8629 or you can order a brick via this form  or website  seafordhistoricalsociety.org

and their  Facebook page can keep you up-to-date on their events.
